Support the County Fair Turnathon
This turnathon workshop will follow directly from the demonstrations provided during the regular meeting held earlier in the day. For that meeting, the demonstration time will be divided between a number of members, each showing how to turn a different, relatively simple item that can be turned in fairly short order. The emphasis here is on simplicity and speed yet resulting in something that is both attractive and functional – for example, bud vases, salt and pepper shakers, and candlesticks. These are the type of turnings that are popular at craft fairs and therefore should be of interest to anyone wanting to pursue selling their art in this way. For our purposes, though, the objective is to provide our members with a fun way to turn in support of our biggest fundraiser, the Cabarrus County Fair. This should be a very fun way to spend a day, working toward a common goal alongside fellow woodturning enthusiasts. Bring a lunch and spend the day. Wood will be provided by the club, but if you have some wood that can be used, bring it along. Just consider the type of forms that we will be turning and plan blank species and sizes accordingly.
Space is limited and we can accommodate only so many turners. So, it is important that you register early to save a spot on a first come, first served basis. This workshop is in place of the Fourth Saturday Open Turning, so you can reserve a place by selecting the Reserve My Spot option below, filling out the form, and then selecting the Fourth Saturday option. The workshop will start at 1:00 and can end when the participants want to call it a day. There will be adequate time between the meeting and the workshop for lunch, so either bring lunch or order out at your preference. While the morning meeting is open to the public, the afternoon workshop is members only.
