March 2026 Regular Monthly Meeting
Join us for our Regular Monthly Meeting at the ClearWater Arts Center and Studios, where members and guests gather to immerse themselves in the art of turning, share projects, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. At a typical meeting, a guest woodturner provides a demonstration on some aspect of woodturning. Demonstrators may be from other regional clubs, national turning professionals, or experienced turners from our own club. Topics vary widely and might feature the proper use of a specific tool, making a specific turned item, equipment maintenance and use, and other similar areas of interest.
For this meeting, the demonstration will be divided between a number of members, each showing how to turn a different, relatively simple item that can be turned in fairly short order. The emphasis here is on simplicity and speed yet resulting in something that is both attractive and functional – for example, bud vases, salt and pepper shakers, and candlesticks. These are the type of turnings that are popular at craft fairs and therefore should be of interest to anyone wanting to pursue selling their art in this way. For our purposes, though, the objective is to incentivize members to start turning in support of our biggest fundraiser, the Cabarrus County Fair. The meeting will be followed in the afternoon by a “Support the County Fair Turnathon”, during which members can turn the same forms as those demonstrated in the morning in support of the fair. This should be a very fun way to spend a day, working toward a common goal alongside fellow woodturning enthusiasts. Bring a lunch and spend the day.
Just like all our gatherings, if you're feeling unwell or exhibiting any symptoms of illness, we kindly request that you stay home. Many of our members are part of high-risk groups, and safeguarding everyone's health remains a top priority.
Are you curious about SPW but not yet a member? Drop by and explore the benefits of joining our vibrant community.
Whether you're investigating the craft to see what it is about, a novice seeking to improve your turning skills or broaden your turning portfolio, or a seasoned veteran, our meetings provide a welcoming space for all.
