Pen Making Workshop
Participants will learn the ins and outs of making turned wooden pens. The mentors will first cover the equipment, tools, and fixtures needed to make pens, including the pen kits themselves, related costs and where they can be purchased. The participants will then start at the very beginning, going through all the steps needed to make and assemble the pen blanks prior to actually going to the lathe. Because some of these steps require time for glues to set, fully assembled blanks will also be provided so that the participants can then get to the lathe and begin turning. Once the blanks have been turned and finish has been applied, they will then assemble the pens. It is anticipated that each participant will make two pens to take with them, plus they will have the blanks that they assembled and an additional pen kit to take with them to complete at another time. All materials and tools are provided. Lunch will be at noon and extra turning time after lunch will be available to finish projects if needed.
Cost: $35 (materials included).
Optional Lunch: $10 (homemade Italian roast beef with sides).
Limit: 10 participants — reservations required. Please indicate if you’d like to be included in lunch.
