Description
John Jordan is a well-known woodturner from the Knoxville, TN area. During our regular membership meeting held on the morning of April 25, John will provide a demonstration on the use of a skew chisel to make his signature Harry Potter wands and other spindle-turned items of interest. His demonstration will concentrate on the proper use of the skew chisel. In the afternoon, starting at 1:00, John will join us for a workshop during which we will replicate his Harry Potter wands and other interesting projects as time allows. The workshop will conclude around 4:00.
The proper use of a skew chisel is one of the fundamental skills that all woodturners should master. Optimally, this should be one of the first skills addressed in learning the craft because a good, fundamental understanding of the skew chisel translates into other areas of woodturning and to the use of other tools. Yet, many experienced woodturners shy away from using the skew. This workshop should therefore be of interest to those new to the craft, to the experienced woodturner who has not yet mastered the skew, and even those who have used the skew successfully but need a refresher. So, come and join us for a workshop that should be a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun. A fee will be required for this workshop to partially offset John’s travel and living expenses and the costs of the supplies used during the workshop. We are not providing a lunch option for this workshop, but take-out lunch will be ordered for those interested at the time, or feel free to bring lunch. In any case you can share some quality social time between the meeting and workshop socializing with fellow club members. The workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 active SPW club members, and spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.
