SOUTHERN PIEDMONT WOODTURNERS MEETING
Tuesday, October 21, 2025, 6:30pm
With a live demonstration presented by:
John Johnson
“Construction of a Split Bowl”
John started woodturning about ten years ago, starting with pens and then with bowls, hollow forms, vases, and closed and open segmenting. John likes to spend as much free time as he can in his small shop tinkering or working on something, whether it be woodturning, building jigs, laser engraving, and more recently, learning to use his 3d printer and discovering ways that this new technology can be used in woodturning. John currently serves as president of the Waxhaw Woodturners, which sometimes seems to take up the rest of any other free time that he may have. John has found that woodturning and penturning are excellent hobbies to have as he considers himself to be “practicing for retirement”, which fortunately is just a few months away.
The subject of John’s demonstration will be the construction of a “Split Bowl”, which was inspired by the works of Alan Carter. John will demonstrate the turning of the actual bowl from start to finish and discuss various methods on embellishing.
