Request Mentoring

Our mentoring program is intended to provide one-on-one support in transferring turning skills from more experienced club members to members with less advanced turning skills. Typically, mentoring is meant to help new and relatively inexperienced members get started in turning or to learn some totally new aspect of turning. Unlike open shop turning sessions, which are conducted at the studio on a specific schedule and can involve support from any of a number of members, mentoring is provided at a venue, time, and for a duration that is mutually agreed between the two parties involved, the student and the specific mentor chosen. It can be performed at the club studio, at the mentor’s shop or at your own shop, and it can be done at essentially any time that is mutually agreeable.

Mentoring involves a commitment by the mentor to provide at least 4 hours with you. This can be in one session or broken up into several sessions, as you both agree. How you wish to schedule your mentoring time is between you and the mentor. Once you apply for mentoring, the mentor will contact you to make the necessary arrangements. Mentoring is meant to be a fun experience for both parties and should not be a force fit for either party. Once the mentor’s commitment has been met, any further mentoring sessions are at the mentor’s discretions – they can continue or call it a day, and you can continue by mutual agreement to do so, or you can return here and submit a new request.

Please complete this form and select the mentor you’d like to work with. The form will be sent directly to that mentor. Learn more about each of our mentors on their personal mentoring bio page.
