The June 17, 2025 meeting of the Southern Piedmont Woodturners (SPW) was held at the Clearwater Arts Center studio, with 18 members attending in person and 4 remotely. President Phil Goodman presided, reminding members that officer elections will take place at the next meeting on July 15, 2025, and emphasizing the need for a quorum. The proposed slate of officers includes Larry Nottingham (President), Steve Lusk (Vice President), Beth Bjerregaard (Secretary), and Gina Brown (Treasurer), along with board members Vince Keipper, Michael Martens, Bill Joyce, and Ric Erkes. Cindy Boehrns and Phil Goodman will continue as nonvoting board advisors.

During club business, members were reminded that volunteers are needed for roles such as club photographer, A/V training, and equipment maintenance. A Saturday studio cleaning and maintenance day will be scheduled later in the year, and raffle item donations are still requested.

The “Tops for Kids” challenge continues, encouraging members to make at least three tops monthly to rebuild the inventory depleted by last year’s County Fair and outreach activities, including contributions to Honduras and Cannon School.

Preparations are also underway for the Cabarrus County Fair, September 5–13, where SPW will host a large indoor booth with multiple lathes and demonstrations. Volunteers are needed for setup, turning, sales, raffles, and cleanup. Additionally, members are invited to display their turned art at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital, coordinated by Sarah Gay, with showcase pieces typically exhibited for six months to a year.
