The February meeting was held at our studio in the ClearWater Arts Center on February 28, 2026, with 25 members and guests present. The turnout for the meetings now that we have moved from Tuesday evening to Saturday morning meetings is encouraging. Where we typically had around 16-18 max for the Tuesday meetings, we are seeing about half again as many at the Saturday morning meetings. While it might be too seen to claim this to be a huge success, at least it appears that membership approves. We have also seen good participation in the workshops and in open turning sessions, typically having 8 or more for each event. Hopefully we can continue to offer opportunities that will attract new members and support existing members in their woodturning journeys.
Please take note that dues for 2026 are now payable. The dues amount for 2026 remains the same as the past couple of years at $55.00 for regular annual membership. Dues can be paid using PayPal at our website or see our Treasurer or President if you wish to pay by cash or check at a meeting. Or you can mail a check to Southern Piedmont Woodturners, 223 Crowell Drive NW, Concord, NC 28025.
At the meeting, a short business session was followed by a wonderful demonstration presented by SPW member and expert turner, Lan Brady. The topic of Lan’s demonstration was turning the Canoe Cup x2, and Lan did an outstanding job of presenting it. Following the meeting and lunch break, a workshop was held on the same topic.
Show and Share had participation by several members who presented a number of unique and well-executed projects that demonstrate the breadth and depth of the woodturning capabilities of our membership. Enjoy the newsletter.
