November and time to start working on those turned Christmas ornaments. Several members of SPW met at the studio on November 1 to participate in a workshop on making turned Christmas ornaments using Sea Urchin shells, known as tests, for the bodies of the ornaments. The workshop was led by Ric Erkes, with support from Steve Lusk and Darrell Rader. Seven member turners learned how to turn nicely proportioned finials and top sections used for hanging the ornaments, as well as how to assemble them without breaking the fragile tests. A great time was had by all who attended.
