The Southern Piedmont Woodturners (SPW) newsletter for August and September 2025 highlights a highly active period filled with meetings, workshops, demonstrations, and event participation. Following the July elections, SPW held two general meetings and two Board of Directors meetings, focusing on preparations for the Cabarrus County Fair, website upgrades, and a North Carolina Grassroots Arts Program grant.

The August meeting featured Darryl Jones demonstrating hollow-form ornament turning, while the September meeting showcased Bob Moffett demonstrating platter turning. Both were well received and inspired members to try new techniques. The club also held a power carving workshop and a Turn-athon at Clearwater Studios to produce sale items for the fair.

The Cabarrus County Fair proved a major success despite setup challenges. Members donated and sold various turned items and engaged with the public through live demonstrations.

The newsletter also includes health updates for several members, reminders about the need for raffle donations, and a new meeting schedule beginning January 24, 2026 (fourth Saturdays, 9 a.m.–noon).

Upcoming activities include the North Carolina Woodturning Symposium (Nov. 7–9, 2025), two additional 2025 workshops (Christmas ornaments and pen turning), and the 2026 training initiative. The Board emphasized ongoing education, volunteer participation, and gradual production of sale items year-round.

Finally, the issue congratulates Lan Brady, selected as one of three in-state demonstrators for the NC Symposium, and encourages members to attend and support his sessions.
