Need a gift idea?  Well, this month’s demo might just fit the bill.  Tom Gaskill will be our guest turner this month.   The demo will be live in the studio and available via zoom.
Tom has been turning for five years and in that time he has turned almost every kit Penn State Industries sells.   Concentrating on utilitarian ware such as peppermills, pizza cutters, ice cream scoops, etc, Tom has been very successful selling his work at local venues.

For the demo, Tom will be turning a Penn State Industries (pennstateind.com) one-piece combination saltshaker/ pepper grinder, which is his overall best-selling grinder.   He’ll be turning a Spectraply blank which comes from Cousineau Wood Products (cwp-usa.com) in Maine.


As you can see from below, not a lot of tools are required.

Dewalt Chop Saw to size blank (top section is 2”, bottom is 4”)

Nova Chuck with 3” jaws

1 ½” forstner bit on Jacobs chuck

1 1/16” forstner bit on Jacobs chuck

7mm mandrel

7mm mandrel saver

1 1/16” peppermill bushings from PSI

Spindle Roughing Gouge

Easy Wood Tools Mid-Size Round Carbide with Ci3 cutter

Sandpaper 150-400 grit

Deft High Gloss Lacquer spray
