John Johnson

Penturning 101 and beyond.

John will be demonstrating the basics of Penturning, along with a discussion of more advanced techniques.  This will include the necessary equipment, the nice to have equipment, and options in between.  Penturning is an area of woodturning that has its own following.  It can be the very first simple project you turn, but can quickly progress to where creatively flourishes.  Need a special gift for someone?  Come and get some ideas from John.

John started woodturning about eight years ago, starting with pens and then with bowls, hollow forms, vases, and closed and open segmenting.  He spends as much free time as he can in his shop working on something, whether it be woodturning, building jigs, laser engraving, and more recently, learning to use his 3D printer.  He currently serves as president of the Waxhaw Woodturners.  John says that Woodturning and Penturning are excellent hobbies to have as he is “practicing for retirement”, which for him is still a few years away.   However, once that day finally gets here, he says, he’ll be ready!

John will be in studio, and available on Zoom.
