Chapel Hill Woodturners Workshop on Saturday, March 7 — Turning Bowls from Logs

The workshop will cover aspects of turning green wood, including selection of wood, preparation of blanks, and turning natural edge and standard bowls in both cross grain and vertical grain configurations. David will discuss how to keep bark on the rim of the bowl, and the tool techniques needed to get a clean cut on the bark edge. Maple bowl blanks will be provided for both cross-grain and vertical grain turning. David will bring a wide variety of turned objects to show the many possibilities available when turning green wood. We will also discuss turning and finishing a bowl green as well as roughing a bowl, drying, and finish turning. The workshop will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and lunch will be provided.
