Women in Turning (WIT)


Special Event:


On October 19th – 21st, 2017, Southern Piedmont Woodturners (SPW) in Concord NC will sponsor their second Women in Turning (WIT) Special Event this year.  Primary focus at this event will be making Christmas Ornaments but you will also be able to turn other items if you would like.  Our lead demonstrator will be Peggy Schmid.  Scarlotte Rouse will also demonstrate making a Beads of Courage Box and Cynthia Gibson will teach a pyrography session on ornament decorating.  Here are the details of the event:


  1. Dates: Thursday October 19th – Saturday, October 21st 2017.
  2. Times: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  3. Group dinner will be provided Wednesday, October 18th for anyone that would like to attend.
  4. The fee for lunches, wood and incidentals for the 3-day session will be $100 per person.  Those not attending all 3 days will be charged $35 per day.
  5.   6. For those needing accommodations, there are hotels in Kannapolis and Concord within the vicinity of our studio.


Southern Piedmont Woodturners rents a 1,683 foot studio in Clearwater Artist Studios, 223 Crowell Drive NW, Concord, NC 28025.  We have 15 new midi-lathes with chucks, basic turning tools, pen making equipment, etc. for your woodturning enjoyment.  Bring your own hollowing tools and wood burning equipment if you would like to spend a lot of time wood burning.  SPW members will bring their wood burning equipment, air brushes, dyes and micro carvers if anyone would like to try these.
